Day on French Island
The group gathered at the Cowes Pier ready for an adventure to French Island. The trip started ominously as the captain declared "I can't promise to get you off the island this afternoon"!
After much discussion of weather, wind and waves, some impatient engine revving motivated most of the group to take a chance and the ferry was boarded. A choppy crossing followed and as we disembarked, our cheery captain declared "See you Monday".
We were introduced to some fascinating French Island history and characters by April from FIGS (French Island General Store) and headed off to walk.
A beautiful hike followed, on rocky, sandy and sometimes muddy tracks and side roads. Summiting the Pinnacles (60m) was successful! A few navigation conferences were held on the way, a little light rain and we enjoyed some spectacular views. Some very hungry mosquitoes followed us and the avenue of koalas was a highlight as we approached lunch.
After a generous lunch at FIGS we were shuttled back to catch the ferry as scheduled.
Thanks to everyone involved for a great day

Point Smythe 29 August 2024
The coastal tee tree makes a very sheltered micro climate in any weather, and with the stunning views of Anderson Inlet, towards Eagles Nest and out into the “wild blue Yonder” surf beach, this walk has it all.

Darby & Tidal Rivers - Paddling, Sun 11 August 2024
How could we believe we could paddle in August in thin shirt sleeves and get hot, just too good to miss out on, a perfect paddle forecast.
