Climbing the steps to the top of the sand dunes (a quick heart starter) fabulous views greeted us of the Forrest Caves beach and foreshore. Venturing left along the beach we approached the caves. The tide was partially out, however, recent stormy weather revealed the damage to sand dunes and beach sand. Round, loose rocks were exposed (challenging care with walking) where sand had been removed by stormy tides in recent weeks. On our day, the outgoing tide enable walkers to explore the crevices and openings in the top of the rocky outcrop that comprise the caves formation.
Returning and continuing along the beach we climbed another set of steps at Surf beach overlooking the Southern Ocean. The walk then continued crossing the main Phillip Island/Cowes Road to reach Conservation reserve. The reserve is an area of natural woodlands and wetlands set aside for its natural state. It covers an area of approx. 30 hectares.
At the far side calm waters to the north with views to Rhyll are observed. This provided an ideal location for morning tea where sawn blocks from large trees were arranged in circular spiritual arrangement for seating. A return walk to Forrest Caves car park completed the walk where all in attendance enjoyed the walk and social activity.
The day's event was completed with lunch held at one of Phillip Island's many attractions - the Chocolate factory. Some of the service provided featured Robots delivering meals.
