We met at Fish Creek where Kerry organized our carpool and welcomed Shirley who was on her first walk with the club.

A short wander through coastal scrub put us on the beach, to our delight the tide was way out, our trusty leader had made an excellent call. Walking into the wind was a bit of a challenge especially for those of us who had loose fitting hats.

Foster North and Toora hills provided a lovely backdrop in the distance whilst swans and a few shore birds were observed foraging in the shallows. Respite from the wind was appreciated as we approached the tiny tin shacks, a very different environment with prolific mangroves. Having explored the rickety jetty it was time to negotiate the wet section, it’s always sloppy directly below the bluff which rises sharply from the water’s edge. Time for a bit of huff and puff as we climbed the steep steps. Once again, we were rewarded with more beautiful views. A short walk-through protected bush took us to morning tea on a grassy spot overlooking the beach. We were all very comfortable tucked away from the wind and bathed in full sunshine….the most relaxed snack-time of any Tuesday walk.

We made our way back along the beach taking advantage of the tail wind. On the way we copped a heavy shower, the savage wind sand blasting any exposed skin! Thankfully it didn’t last too long and by the time we reached the cars most of us had dried off. Lunch stop back in Meeniyan completed a lovely mornings walk.

Many thanks to Kerry for leading and to all participants for your company.
