Looks can be deceiving, who would have thought that we could have such an enjoyable paddle on this waterway.
It was a cool misty morning when we left Gippsland for Tooradin. Our paddle was due to start at 10.00 am, and as luck happened blue sky appeared and the cool breeze disappeared. Making for perfect conditions.
Our day of paddling started at Sawtells Inlet just north of the Sth Gippsland Hwy. As the tide was rising we knew there would be plenty of time for a good look around, without any concerns of getting bogged in any shallow water. This is a scenic area with the stream being navigable for almost 5 km, until it becomes impassable due to becoming blocked by reeds. Along the way there was plenty to look at including fishing platforms, farmland, mangroves and the odd fish jumping out of the water.
The return journey was equally as pleasant, with everyone arriving back safe and dry. After having lunch, a cuppa and a few laughs we parted company and headed for home.
Special thanks to Roz our leader.
