This paddle was designed to give our two newbies the opportunity to experience paddling at a Club level.

The South Gippy mob left home in stiff white frost, so were relieved to see the weir bathed in glorious sunshine, with not a ripple on the water. We had plenty of time for introductions and safety briefing, as well as basic equipment checks. After a demonstration of basic stroke skills we were on the water by 10 and proceeded upstream, soon to be immersed in the total tranquility of the river scene. No animals today, just a couple of birds hanging around and one dead fish on the riverbed. Three of us ventured through the rapids whilst the others rested in quiet waters.

This was a first time on the water for Patrina. We managed to get her home warm and dry and hope to see her on future Club paddles. John is no stranger to our local rivers as he has enjoyed fishing from his boat. From all accounts he is keen to try out our different Club kayaks.

There was lots of chatter over lunch before we packed up and headed for home.

Many thanks to Roz for planning the day and patiently sharing paddling skills and equipment with others. A good time was had by all.

Participants:-Roz Spratt (Leader}, Michele Timmins, Don Creed, John Johnston, Patrina Roberts, and Pat Williams.
