Saturday’s weather forecast wasn’t great; rain and wind expected. In spite of this 9 happy bike riders met in Yarram. We welcomed Patrina and Michele … plus Bev who joined us for coffee.

By the way, thank you Roz for at least making it a 10 AM start; it’s a fair way to Yarram, unless of course you live there, as one of our riders does.

We started with coffee … and cake for some. As we headed out of town along the rail trail we admired an extensive wetlands area in the back streets. Alberton was quickly passed through. Approaching Port Albert Roz led us on the most adventurous part of the ride; we all managed to stay on our bikes. Our luck with the weather ran out and we got slightly wet. Fortunately this turned out to be a brief shower and it didn’t rain again until we returned to the cars to come home.

A highlight of the ride was lunch at Port Albert’s iconic Wharf Fish and Chip Co. We tried not to drip water on the floor as we waited to order; it’s quite popular even on a winter weekend. Ed and I thoroughly recommend the fresh local whiting, the chips were good too. A few of us eyed off Graham’s fish taco; next time! Loved the view from the back deck looking over the wharf where we were sheltered from the wind; it was quite blissful. After a quick detour to check out Bev’s camper-van we were on our way. It felt good to be on our bikes again, mainly because we needed to keep warm. The ride home seemed much shorter, probably because the wind had dropped a bit. Yay! Good company, good food, a nice flat ride with not too much head wind, a scenic destination on a (supposedly) cold, wet, windy, winter Saturday; how lucky were we! Thanks Roz; we had fun!
