On Sunday 2nd July 2023 we all headed out to Sale for a promising day of Kayaking on the Latrobe River.

Firstly a car shuffle had to happen l was left to mind our kayaks. It was quite busy at the pontoon with rowers in rowing boats having a lesson. We managed to launch our kayaks without pranging into the row boats which was quite a feat. Then we were finally on our way, we were lucky with the weather no rain, very little wind.

With this trip the bird life kept us entertained skidding across the river. We spotted quite a few eagles nests and saw a sea eagle perched in the tree. Pelicans were flying over us. A black swan was by itself in the water, cockatoos in gum trees.

The river had plenty of big ghost gums, and few canoe trees it was mostly farming land and beautiful big trees. We passed the entrance to the Thompson River, paddled under a bridge where a small tree was growing on a bit of dirt and concrete, then paddled under the swing bridge.

We stopped for lunch and a much-needed leg stretch, where we enjoyed the surroundings, mountains in the distance Heart morass.

The last half of our paddle seemed to go quickly more of the country scenery. When we arrived at Levee track there was a large boat that had broken down, so getting around this boat to exit your kayak was harder than usual, we got there, loaded our kayaks on the trailer and cars. I would like to thank Pat Willams for leading a successful paddle, it was well planned and organized. Everyone who participated enjoyed the paddle, it was a very easy, drama free day. Well done Pat.
