Eleven members traveled to Merimbula arriving on Tuesday, 13 June for the two-day Wharf to Wharf walk from Merimbula to Tathra.

We all stayed at the NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Resort (caravan park) right on the foreshore. The plan was to do it over two days with a car shuffle.
First day of the walk was about 14kms to Hobart camp (near Wallagoot Lake) and completed in 5.5 hrs. The walk was mostly on the beach with some inland trails. The weather was magnificent, mild temperatures with no wind, providing magnificent views of the ocean and the never ending beaches. The title of the “Sapphire Coast” is very appropriate.  It was a good walk, but the beaches did become tiresome. Arrived at the Hobart camp then headed back to Merimbula.

Thursday 15 June

An early start today to head back to the Hobart camp to complete our Wharf to Wharf walk heading to Tathra. Started on the beach for only 1.5 kms then into the bush. The walk was a lot of ups and downs, through forests, down onto rocky inlets. A good walk with tough climbs up stairs, but the views were brilliant. The small rocky coves provided great places for resting and soaking up the atmosphere. Calm seas and blue skies! We were all very excited as saw a dolphin and whale spouts.

We arrived in Tathra after 13 kms in 6 3/4 hrs all pleased that we had completed the walk. Then it was back to Merimbula for a quick shower and out for dinner to the Club Sapphire arranged by Katie. It was a good night out to complete the Wharf to Wharf adventure. Thank you to Graham Talmage and Katie Senko for organising the weekend and dinner.

This should be an annual event - the weather was mild!
