A two hour drive from our lunchstop (and an ice cream! )at Licola took us up a pot holed road to Bryces Gorge Campground situated only a few km’s down the road from the infamous Wonnangatta Valley
After tents were erected our group of 14 enjoyed a convivial beverage beside the campfire, with a massive wood pile care of Craig. The evening progressed to Charades, lots of laughter and a dwindling wood pile!
The next morning saw us all decamped and ready to head off at 8am on our 8km walk …. And what a treat it was.
As we climbed up and around the gorge we were treated to glimpses of the Pieman Falls through the misty low clouds. The Pieman Falls were in full flood after all the recent rain and cameras were clicking.
Continuing on to the Conglomerate Falls we passed through a gorgeous small camping area overlooking the water far below. Alpine flowers, including wild orchids, were in abundance – all blooming at once – colours of pink, blue, yellow and white amongst the green arrested our eyes.
The circuit walk took us past Guys Hut a cattleman’s and refuge hut built in 1940. From here we returned to our campground and bade our farewells for the drive home.
Many thanks to Pat and Roz for organising and sharing this magnificent camp and walk.
