With great delight we have kicked off the 20/21 paddle season with a quiet meander around part of Lake Narracan, formed by the damming of the Latrobe River to provide water to Yallourn Power Station.

Lake Narracan is a perfect spot to try out kayaking being shallow with lots of protection.  We launched from the bay to the right of the main boat ramp.  With David keen to try out a sea kayak, basic instruction was provided in how to get in/out and paddle strokes followed by a lap of the island.  With minor adjustments attended to (foot pedals) and instructions on how to use the rudder we then set off up the lake, stopping at the jetty before crossing to visit the HoverCraft Club which is located on the opposite shore in a most idyllic setting.

Much to my delight one of their members Glen was present, cutting the lawns and taking his craft for a spin.  Social chit chat resulted in the offer of being able to use this site as a base for future paddles up the Latrobe.  Due to the close proximity of this site to the “non motorised” section of the lake and ease of access this would be a brilliant site for future Come & Try activities.

Bidding Glen farewell we headed back for a leisurely lunch before heading home.  Thank you to all who participated.
