We headed off from Shelly Beach car park just after 9.00am and soon fell into a steady rhythm.

The day was perfect for walking the undulating cliff tops of the George Bass Trail – clear blue skies, a mild day with a gentle breeze.

After several short photo stops to admire the breathtaking views we soon arrived at our destination; the lookout at Half Moon Bay.

While sipping coffee, we spied several whales off the point and enjoyed watching them make their way up to the northern climes.

On the way back, and buoyed by the sighting of the whales, we dropped down to the Half Moon Bay beach where we then had to clamber over the rock face to get around the pint and reach the cove on the other side.

A little further on, we left the beach and climbed the short but steepish trail up to the cliff tops and so resume our trek back along the trail to the cars.
