  • Thoughts from a Bird Watcher on The Benefits of Watching Birds

    When I was a boy around the age of 8, I enjoyed our large back yard. I grew up in Melbourne, two blocks from the West Footscray primary school. My backyard was a jungle with trees to climb, open grassy patches and sheds to 8 explore. Birds caught my attention back then. Especially, a small, common bird; its proper name is the House Sparrow, Passer domesticus, and it was introduced into Australia in 1863
