In preparation - a number of the group volunteered to partake in the car shuffle to the finish point before returning to the walk's start at Fish Creek. A quick head count and we were off to beat the weather. Before long, and not yet in sight of Mt. Nicoll, we were confronted by 20 or so head of dairy cattle as we walked along the easement. They caused a bit of a distraction and slowed us down some. Cheryl tried to head them off, but to no avail. Eventually, the trail led us through a side gate and we left the cattle in peace. A quick stop for a water break turned into another head count ...alass, we had one more than we thought!! How did that happen?

Many of the group had not walked this one before. Lots of beautiful farm land, rolling hills and green grass, and a few small rises and dips in the early part of the walk. I think they thought they were doing OK up till this point. However, the tower at the top of the range emerged in the distance (the most elevated part of the walk). A few muffled sighs and gasps were heard! Soon enough the small rises became more intimidating and finally the long hall up that hill ...

Amongst us, there were a range of walking capabilities, but to all involved, everyone perservered. At last the tail-enders arrived, some with jelly legs, but everyone out of breath. It was all worth it with spectacular views in all directions and particularly the views towards the Prom were awe inspiring.

After a late morning tea break, we continued on our way. The wind was up and even if we hadn't previously blown the "cob webs" out, the wind certainly did.

Despite the difficulties, today's walk was a ripper!, enjoyed by all.

Thanks Ken for leading this walk.
