Grey skies and a gusty South Westerly wind had little impact as we paddled the protected Thomson River.
The water level had dropped a little since our last trip which allowed us to explore the small rapids. We all managed to navigate our way through the fast-flowing waters. A great effort from Jackie to get her little sit-upon through, likewise nice to see Helen make it all the way. We found a quiet spot for our morning tea break. Richard managed to make a grand exit and landed himself in the water, lucky it wasn’t cold! After our break Avenel challenged us to get through the next rapid, then for the fun bit, a swift trip downstream avoiding the rocks.
It was nice to have two new paddlers taking advantage of Avenel’s mentoring skills especially with regard to paddle strokes.
Once our boats were packed up it was time for tucker and a chit chat.
Thanks to Avenel for organising this trip.
Participants: Avenel Casson (Leader), Richard McNeil, Roz Spratt, Helen Whitby, Jacky Adamson, Frithjof Arp, Pat Williams and Denise Stranger (Ben Cruachan Walking Club).
