Approximately 16 members of the SGWAAC gathered at Lake Catani at the Mt Buffalo plateau last Sunday for a few days of hiking and camaraderie. Sunday, the weather was a bit shabby but not too bad to set up camp.
Monday, we all enjoyed a walk to the Chalet, via the Viewpoint and the underground river. The views, unfortunately, were non-existent due to fog. It was cool, but not wet - lucky.
Tuesday, some of us did the Big Walk - we had a stunning day and enjoyed the challenging hike to the Chalet - we climbed approximately 1100 m and enjoyed stunning views and good company.
Wednesday, we did the Back Wall. This walk is beautiful - again the weather was kind and we had stunning views. Some of us drove to The Horn, the highest point on the Mt Buffalo Plateau.
The evenings were spent with Happy Hour around a big campfire, lit by our master of campfires Graham. Ian, ever so observant, gave a repertoire on our last night.
Some of us were attacked by European Wasps, never again - we are still scratching.
Thank you to our fearless leaders, our whips and the drivers who assisted in our car shuffles.
Thanks for the good company. For Johnand I it was the first trip away in our caravan (The Taj Mahal) and guess what, we encountered a few "first time" challenges. Thank you to Ian, Sue, Les and Heatherfor your support - we learnt a lot. (BTW, when we got home, there was oodles of water in the water tank - not sure what went on.) It was also our first time at Mt Buffalo, and we will be back - am already studying the maps.
