An easy beach walk from the Yanakie Caravan park, car park to Red Bluff.
Where the heck is Duck Point you may well ask ? Well if you had gone on this walk you would be full bottle on this little hidden gem.
After gathering our group from Fish Creek and car pooling to Yanakie Caravan Park ( at the end of Foley Rd, Yanakie ) we met up with the rest of our 28 strong group. It was fine day with slight overcast, a light breeze, low 20's temp and the tide was out.
We set off on the track at the north eastern corner of the car park through a tunnel of coastal scrub and trees ( very "LORD OF THE RINGS" ) for about half a kilometre where we came out on the beach just north of Duck Point, with views across to the Prom and across Corner inlet to the hills and Toora. The sea was flat and calm with sun glinting on the water. We walked along the beach north taking the views and negotiating the soggy bits. Eventually we came to hidden camping areas and sheds, there was also a rather rickety jetty out in the mangroves, which a few of the more adventurous tested out.
We sat on the grass in a little alcove among the boat sheds and enjoyed morning tea. From there we walked behind the mangroves along a soggy path and then some rocks around Red Bluff. After investigating the small caves and craggy red rocks we climbed up the steep embankment above the mangroves to a track heading back south parallel to the beach. The track goes for about three quarters of kilometre next to a few houses and then we turned left back to the beach to retrace our steps back to the car park.
A relatively easy walk which everyone enjoyed. The car poolers returned to Fish Creek with a few adjourning to Hotel for coffees and a bite to eat.
