It was fortunate that Thursday afternoon stayed sunny but not too hot as 13 riders left Leongatha for Meeniyan at 5.30pm.
They were joined, at Koonwarra, by a further 8 – half of those having ridden from Meeniyan.
The ride to Meeniyan was fairly uneventful – I couldn’t possibly reveal the name of the character who, somehow, managed to deposit his phone on one of the bridges. Luckily it was retrieved by his spouse so damage to his standing in the community was limited.
First of the main group to cross the line in Meeniyan was – wait for it – Joe Jans! We await, with interest, for the results of his drug test.
Trulli’s had a number of tables set up for us – with non-riders we now totalled 24. One couple tried to sit by themselves at an outside table by claiming that we were essentially an outdoor club! They were finally pulled into line without being beaten. The majority of us successfully ordered something that we enjoyed – mostly pizzas – but one pair managed to order the worst pizza on the menu and eventually received a refund whilst ordering a substitute meal.
Except for those of us who started in Meeniyan the rest saddled up and rode off into the sunset. Actually not true – they couldn’t ride fast enough for that. Anyway some finished back at Koonwarra whilst the rest rode to Leongatha.
A big thankyou to Kerry for her organization and for letting me ride home from Trulli’s. David Baggallay
