Blue skies, no wind and a group of enthusiastic cyclists, so keen, in fact, we all arrived at the starting point, (Morwell railway station) early and were ready to leave half an hour earlier than planned.
The shared bike/walk path runs along in front of the station so we were able to start here. The path took us in front of the Immigration Park, Morwell and then headed north towards Crinigan Road along Waterhole Creek, east to Alexander Road where it crosses into open paddocks, cows grazing, and some timber as we passed the Latrobe Regional Airport. This bit was a very good surface of fine gravel. The path took us into Traralgon along Kay Street to Traralgon Creek.
Towns with creeks have marvellous opportunities to have wonderful parklands, lots of people were out walking enjoying the woodlands and sunshine.
Kerry led us to a café for a coffee break, this was a very popular spot and we waited for some time to be served our coffee, opposite was the Traralgon Tennis Association courts. After a coffee we followed the creek south towards the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Conservation Reserve. This is a lovely spot and very popular with the locals. There were a lot of water birds and a clutch of half-grown cygnets were terrorising their parents making huge splashes and entertaining us all. We rested here in the sun, eating our lunch/snacks before getting on our bikes to head back to Morwell. There were a few ups and downs which tested our legs, the ups seemed a bit steeper on the way back. Some stopped to read the boards at the Immigration Park on the return journey.
Participants: Kerry & David, Julie, Julia & Ian, George, Fay & John, Chris & Kee, Zoe & Richard.
The distance was an easy 44km ride.
Thank you Kerry for another great ride on a very fine day.
