10 Intrepid Hikers met at Tidal River Cafe at 9.30am.... Weather forecast - strong winds, rain showers..... “Close your eyes and turn your face into the wind.... that has to the motto of the day .. the weather gods were on our side.
We hiked across the Tidal River bridge and headed towards Mt Bishop. The climb to the summit was a steady upward trudge of five kilometres. We were greeted by strong winds, but not deterred by this - our stomachs told us it is "Morning Tea" time. The views from the top were to die for....
We returned the same way to the Mt Bishop car park where we found a small grassy spot for lunch.... we were relatively protected by the wind. I could demonstrate my fabulous Helinox Zero chair (less than 500 g in weight). Had to be careful that the wind did not blow it away!!!
We continued our walk via the Outlook Track back to Tidal River. Again the views were absolutely superb. We had to be careful not to be blown away by the wind at the highest point of this track. This did not last long, before we were walking on a sheltered path. We came across some beautiful Waxlip Orchids.
We concluded the day at the Tidal River Cafe with a coffee/treats.
It was a fabulous day, we were blessed that the weather, except for the odd wind gusts, was fabulous. We hiked approximately 11.5kms in good company and in a beautiful environment.
Participants: Wendy Page, Ed Jensen, Robyn Scott, Ken Moulton, Fritjop Arp, Graham Talmage, Bev Piper, Chris Edwards and John & Patsy Scales.
