A walk along the Sth Gippsland Rail Trail from Old Foster Station to Fish Creek.

We car pooled from Fish Creek to Foster railway station, the weather forecast was dismal with heavy rain predicted. Fortunately the rain hit between 6 and 8am leaving us ideal weather for walking, with the sun appearing on the final leg of our walk just out of Fish Creek.

The rail trail meandered through a narrow corridor of bush with sections of gums ,wattle, heath and pine forest laden with mushrooms. There was also section of rain forest with amazing natives ferns and gullies with towering tree ferns. The thick forest sections gave the feeling you were in the depths of a forest, oblivious to farms surrounding the trail.
.
We were fortunate to be walking at the height of the mushroom season with an abundance of beautiful red and white highly toxic and hallucinogenic Fly Agaric to the ugly but delicious Slippery Jacks and Saffron milk caps and many many more. We were lucky to have Chris with us to explain the fine art of identification and of course cuisine. We had to pry him away from a particularly good looking stash of slippery jacks.

We stopped for morning tea at the lookout with a view over Wilson's Prom not the vibrant blue one might like to see, but the silvery grey coast was striking.
As we continued on more forging was afoot with an abundance of passion fruit vines flowering and fruiting with a tasting of banana passion fruit on the list for those who were game!
We knew we were coming into Fish Creek with the park like manicured lawns on either side of the trail and rush for lunch at Little Oberon café.
