Naked Hiking Day, sometimes called Hike Naked Day, is (unofficially) on June 21 each year . The easiest way to remember the date is that it falls on the summer (our winter) solstice.
Typically it is celebrated by naked hikers singly or in groups in the mountains or out on the tracks on that date.
The hardy souls of Katoomba in the Blue Mountains have taken it to heart:
THE NUDE TREKKERS OF KATOOMBA
'Twas World Naked Hiking Day in the Blue Mountains so grand,
When a troupe of bare-skinned blokes made their daring stand.
From Katoomba they ventured, with nary a stitch,
Their gear was au naturel, not a single hitch.
The frosty morning air made their cheeks turn rosy red,
As they strode down the trail where few had dared to tread.
The gum trees stood watching, their branches all aghast,
At the sight of these nudists, their modesty outcast.
Up rugged Furber Steps, their bare feet did climb,
Ignoring the snickers and stares for their bold pantomime.
The icy winds howled, but they braved it with glee,
For nothing could ruffle their nude revelry.
At last, they reached the summit, their triumph complete,
With nary a care for the chill that bit their feet.
They raised their voices in a cheer so loud and clear,
"Huzzah for World Naked Hiking Day! We've no shame to fear!"
As they made their descent, the locals all did gawk,
At the sight of these blokes, their birthday suits on walk.
Some shook their heads, while others let out a guffaw,
At the nude trekkers of Katoomba, who gave nature's law a jaw.
