BWV Leader Training Course - Day Walks (One day course)

Due to COVID-19 restrictions numbers are limited to 15 participants per course and all participants who register are asked to lead/co-lead a walk in the next 6 months. 

If there are more than 15 registrations, there will be a waitlist and if there is spare capacity, they will let you know (in order of registration) when places become available. 

Dates:
20 March 2021 (Registrations are open and close on 1 March) 
21 March 2021 (Registrations are open and close on 1 March) 
17 April 2021 (Registrations will open end March)
15 May 2021 (registrations will open end April)

Time and Venue:
From 08:45 - 16:15 at Westerfolds Park in Templestowe, Melbourne

What you will learn:

  • Walk planning
  • Risk management
  • Conducting the walk
  • Navigation
  • Incident management
  • Practical navigation exercises, discussion about particular scenarios and what to do as a leader.

Bushwalking Victoria will provide a handbook for each participant, access to a compass, maps, and presentation material for the day. A small pre-reading document will be sent to registered participants prior to the course date. 

What to bring?

Snacks, Lunch, Pen, Pencil and notebook.

Wet weather gear – waterproof coat, walking shoes/boots for practical navigation exercises in Westerfolds Park.

Tea/coffee/water will be available. Please note there are limits on numbers and DHHS guidelines will be followed due to COVID-19. Trainers reserve the right to cancel the courses if COVID-19 restrictions increase to the point where offering the training is not possible. 

Smartphone Navigation Course: 

Pending relaxing of the COVID-19 social distancing rules, we intend to offer a smartphone navigation course where you will learn how to use your smartphone for navigation, anywhere, anytime. This is a hands-on practical course where the trainer guides participants on their phones and social distancing is not possible.
Course dates (To be confirmed) are 18 April 2021 and 16 May 2021.
