The Archies 2026

Australia’s favourite and most significant art award is coming to Shepparton Art Museum along with Facing Modernity: Degas to Picasso which brings together 37 exceptional paintings and sculptures from the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki never before shown in Australia, including works by Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and more.  

This event is being co-ordinated by Joy Downes.

WHEN -     Wednesday 16th - Friday 18th September

WHERE -   Shepparton Art Museum - Wyndham Street Shepparton

STAYING -  At Victoria Lake Caravan Park - no cabins       OR

                    Big Valley Lakeside Motel  ($130 twin room)

MEETING - 5pm, Wed 16th September at the Quality Hotel Parklake (481 Wyndham St) in the cafe/bar

I am putting it on early this year as the Degas to Picasso exhibition is on at the same time for two weeks. Katie and I have done a recce and checked out accomodation, eateries, other activities etc. I feel that staying 2 nights or longer if you wish is a good idea as it is a long drive.

Your tickets can be purchased online from “Shepparton Art Museum” for the 2 pm session 17th September. Just the Archies or a double ticket for both (Archies and Degas to Picasso).

Next door to the Gallery is Victoria Lake Caravan Park. It doesn’t have cabins as they were swept away in a flood, but just down the road a bit is “Big Valley Lakeside” Motel a little bit tired but clean and reasonable rates (we stayed there it’s fine) .

There is a lovely walk from the gallery along the Goulburn River to the Australian Botanic Gardens and lots of other attractions.

I will going up on the 16th September and staying at the caravan park. Train travel is an option as everything is within easy walking distance.

I will be booking a place for dinner for the17th September at the Quality Hotel Parklake. Kate and I tried it out for you. It’s good.
