Nicholson Base Camp - paddle, walk, cycle
Base Camp for paddlers, cyclists, walkers or just those wanting to come and sit and enjoy the river views.
Self contained camping in wide open space. Plenty of room for caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes, tents and swags. Toilet and bathroom facilities will be available if needed or alternatively BYO. No power on campground area. Limited bedding options in house available for those who do not have camping equipment. Don't forget the Aerogard!!
Activities are subject to weather and can be changed by activity leader.
Arrive Friday at your leisure - once set up perhaps a swim in the river or a stroll around the farm.
PADDLES:
Saturday - Paddlers: Travel to North Arm Lakes Entrance to paddle 'in or on' anything that floats.! Paddle in front of Bullock Island (definitely not near the entrance) along the esplanade towards the foot bridge, going ashore for coffee and food to then return the same way back to carpark.
Sunday Paddlers: Access to the Nicholson River is off the farm banks so enjoy an early morning paddle if you wish before packing up (please maintain paddling protocols and do not paddle on your own) or at your leisure just pack up to head home.
WALKS:
Saturday Walkers: we will also travel to Lakes Entrance for an approx 10kms stroll starting at North Arm and walking up to Kalimna and then down to the jetty along the waterfront and the esplanade for coffee/food before walking back to cars to return back to camp at your leisure.
Sunday walkers could walk along the rail trail into Nicholson for a yummy cooked breakfast or morning tea at the Nicholson General Store and then walk back. Approx 9kms
CYCLE:
Cyclists have access to the rail trail (300 metres from farm gate) and that can take them to Bairnsdale one way or Orbost and beyond the other way.
Nicholson Hotel does a great meal for those who do not want to cook either or both nights.
